2009/2010 Season.Gents.
The season will soon be on us with a real and genuine oppertunity to push for promotion this year.
I mean this for a number of reasons:
1/ We are all better players than this time last year.
2/ The teams in the league do not bring anything that we should worry about.
3/ We have alot of players back from injury.
4/ The coaching setup at the club is improved on from last year.
5/ We are looking to develop a more attacking style of play.
On the last point our skills levels are now improved where i feel we can develop the type of game we can try to play. It will be quicker and requires a certain amount of practice.
Gents training has started on Tue evening(as you asked for 1 day a week) but the turn out for the last 2 sessions have been poor.
Come on lets make this season differant to all the rest!!!!
Also it is important that we have a good turn out for the players meeting on th 18th its your club and your choice for capt etc.
See you tue.

OK chaps, 51 views and the silence is deafening.
Just a few factual observations from someone who cares a great deal about their local club.
1/ This season the second IV are scheduled to play 22 games in a new division. Tonight we had 14 players at training. At present, not only do we not have enough to put together a second team, we do not have a first IV.
2/ We have had more consistant attendances from the Lionesses through the summer senior sessons. They have already acheived something this year, how high are you prepared to aim?
3/ This year sees the start of what will be a defining season for the senior teams in this club. Last year saw some of the best rugby played in years, even if the results didn't always come in. Andy has made clear his intentions for this season, we can't deliver without a strong squad. How would you like this season to be written in history?
4/ There seems to be a lot of talk about politics and people "staying away". Why??? This is a fantastic club, from juniors to youth, ladies and seniors. Take a look around at the number of people who put a shift in to keep this club on the map so you can play / drink / "stay away".
Then take a look across the Cambridge boarder and think about what happened to our next closest club.
I strongly believe that this little "football town" is and will be a fantastic place to play rugby at all levels. If you haven't already done it, have a read of the Junior profiles from some of the players coming through the ranks. How many say they want to play for THIS club at a senior level???
Quite a few, so we have a responsibility to make sure there is a senior side for them to aspire to.
The difference between man and beast is the power of rational thought and speech. The location is the players meeting at the club, 11.00 on Saturday. Leave your ego at home and support your club, please.
By the way, games start in around 6 weeks, the clock is ticking.....

I will be at the club for the AGM, so "Suffolk & Red" can reveal themselves to me if you do not want to on the web site. However, well said.
I did like the Freudian First IV instead of XV, however, with a few injuries in the first few weeks, it could be the first IV.
I have not heard of "politics", and this is a surprise. However, all I know is that, without viable teams and if people ARE truly staying away, for whatever god foresaken reason, then a great club will have serious issues in meeting its commitments.
For the first time in a number of years we have a coach who is prepared to commit to the club, but the players are not prepared to commit.
Perhaps you should have your say at the players meeting, and then, stay for the AGM after and make your point clear to the members.
I watched most home and quite a few away games, only missing when business or internationals intervened. I saw the embryonic start of some good rugby forming last year. We had some of our youngsters step up to the plate and turn in some great performances, as well as our stalwart players continuing to perform week in week out.
I want to watch good rugby again this year, but like I said before, when I go on stage, I do not just turn up and it happens, I have to work hard before, and then it looks easy on the day, like I just turned up.
See you all Saturday guys.

Thanks for your reply Jim, its amazing that 97 people have looked at this thread and only 2 have added to it 3 with me. I like you am amazed about some of the comments from Suffolk and red, Andy and I held 3/4 players meetings over last season which gave the players there oppurtunity to speak up and we acted accordingly. A lot has been done of the park to make life easier for the current crop of players but I am left wondering if they only want to play socially or they feel they know it all already. Teach a dog old tricks springs to mind. Curious to see who turns up saturday for both meetings as I believe these meetings will open a lot of peoples eyes as to what has gone on behind the scenes for not only the playing side but the whole club in general.

I'm not sure where lot's of this is coming from - some summers have 30+ a week in July, some don't,and we always get 2 sides out every year.
We also have a nasty recession on the go, guys working long hours trying to keep jobs or pay the bills and a few new family additions popping up, so when you've been here a long time, as a few of us have, you've seen seasons start slowly before.
The club has listened to the players, and provided what they've asked for, and no doubt, as always, the payers will start coming back to train when a few freinds ring them, they get back from holidays and we start all over again.
I don't really do 'politics' - I'm sure any of us do - I like playing rugby with my friends, and that's why I'm still around - it's my social life and sport rolled into one, and me playing isn't dependant on who does what at the club. In fact, if it was the sort of club where people gather in dark corners and exclude people from things and have favourites and cliques and hidden agenda's, I'd have left the club a long time ago!

I admit i've only been two training sessions myself and have struggled to get there because of personal issue's but i do feel that we will struggle to get one team out nxt season!it's a big step for the two's nxt season as we have moved in to a stronger better league, and doing this is to give the two's more games and more chance of becoming a winning establish team! But with out saying too much there alot of peolpe walkin away instead of dealing with there problems, there is a lot of us (players) that have issues but are too scared to talk bout it!i'm hoping people turn up for the meeting sat and give their views openly without coursing world war three!
Any one has a issue with what i've said, please speak to me face to face.

Hi Guys.
Many thanks for your thoughts and comments. If you feel I have spoken out of turn then I apologise.
I accept all of the points made and, of course there are a multitude of things which may prevent us doing what we want to do in our own time, especially in the current climate.
As someone who has only been around the club for 3 or 4 seasons I have little idea of the numbers training would attract this time of year. I was concerned at the small numbers recently, and share Ben's concerns about our ability to put out teams later in the year.
And Jimbo, thanks for the IV, XV thing. Latin was never my strong point. I would claim a Freudian wotsit if I was smart enough to understand what it was.
See you Saturday.
Neal.
